When you get married you kind of expect to get a little sex.

The Senate Judiciary Committee placed the provision [abolishing the marriage exemption] in the bill over the strong objections of Committee member Jeremiah Denton (R-AL) and the Moral Majority, which feels it is “too hard on husbands accused of raping their wives,” according to a New York Times article last November, Denton…told his fellow committee members that while he considers sexual abuse in marriage a “hideous crime,” he does not believe a husband guilty of “a little coercion” should be placed in the same category as a criminal rapist. “Dammit,” he declared, “when you get married you kind of expect to get a little sex (Mettger, 1982, pp. 2, 13).”[1]
