Desecrating the Eucharist brings Reverend to tears

I don't know how to feel about this.  Some people have been desecrating the Eucharist at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Hastings, Minnesota.  Catholicism teaches transubstantiation which means that the communion wafers literally become the body of Christ.  So when these people desecrate the Eucharist by placing it in hymnals, they are desecrating Christ himself.  This church even will not dispose of them down the drain into the sewer.  They have a special sink set aside.

Desecrating the Eucharist is a very intentional act.  The wafer is placed into your mouth.  You must then hold it in your mouth and take it back to your seat.  You then must take it out of your mouth without anyone noticing.  This was very intentional.

However to me, the Eucharist is not the body of Christ physically.  The crackers that I take during my communion are mere symbols.  I would consider it irreverent to leave garbage in a sanctuary, but that is about  it.  Perhaps I would find the littering with cracker during communion, sacrilegious.  Yet, if you cannot participate in the ritual  with a pure heart, it is best that you littered.

I can seek to understand what brought their reverend to tears, but I have a hard time empathizing.[1]
