The number one reason that these men and women want to keep marital rape legal is the threat of vindictive wives. They fear that women might get revenge on their husbands by accusing them of rape. One guy even fears that wives might sleep with their husbands to collect evidence and then claim the sex was unconsensual. This mastermind of a wife would then blackmail her husband to get what she wants. One, false reports is not a reason to keep a sex crime illegal. Two, marital rape has been illegal in the United States for almost twenty years. The crime is not over reported, but under reported. Women seem to have better things to do than blackmail their husbands.
The number two reason is a strange one. If marital rape is outlawed, women will stop having sex with their husbands. I am not sure I see the logic, but I will try. If you say that a married woman cannot be raped then she also can refuse sex. If she can refuse sex, she will. This is normally thrown in with some mention of his/her conjugal rights, implicit consent, irrevocable consent, unretractable consent, etc. Rape may be horrible, but underneath this despicable Christian doctrine she consented to the rape. For that matter she consented to all sex acts until the marriage is canceled by death or divorce. Even if the husband is a masher, she still cannot say "no". Unfortunately they get this from 1 Corinthians 7.
Now with regard to the issues you wrote about: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.” But because of immoralities, each man should have relations with his own wife and each woman with her own husband. A husband should give to his wife her sexual rights, and likewise a wife to her husband. It is not the wife who has the rights to her own body, but the husband. In the same way, it is not the husband who has the rights to his own body, but the wife. Do not deprive each other, except by mutual agreement for a specified time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then resume your relationship, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. I say this as a concession, not as a command. I wish that everyone was as I am. But each has his own gift from God, one this way, another that. ~ 1 Corinthians 7:1-7Paul is responding to the extreme position of “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.” From this no sex context, he tells the Corinthians to actually have sex for pleasure. If the Corinthians had written Paul and said that "marriage vows are implicit consent for sex morning, noon, and night", I would hope that Paul would have said, give a woman a break. Again the context is the extreme position of no sex. Implicit consent is an extreme position in the other direction with marital rape being off the charts.
In the United States, we wrote all sorts of laws forcing our wives to remain married to us. We also wrote laws requiring that they have sex with us. For a matter of decades the chains have been gone. Women remain our wives not because of the law anymore, but their free will. Honestly, do you want a wife that has sex with you, because Jesus told her? Don't you want a wife that wants to have sex with you as a partner?
The third reason for keeping marital rape legal is equally pathetic. If wives cannot be raped, they will decline sex. If they begin to decline sex, their poker of a husband will be driven by his passions to go poke something else: prostitutes, other married women, unmarried women, children, men, and even animals. After all we men are just ravenous animals. I will not deny that dissatisfaction in marriage does not tempt men to affairs, but seriously men cannot keep it in their pants. In this situation men are said to have three options: Divorce, Adultery, and the unthinkable remaining at home powerless. After all Christ is head of the church and the husband is head of the family. A wife that will not have sex with her husband is not listening to the head of her family. I said unthinkable, because to these Bahamians the idea of a remaining in a marriage without sex is unthinkable. Their marriage vows meant to them sex guaranteed.
Honestly I read all of this as a guilty pleasure. It makes me angry, but I have to read more. It is like reading about the Dark Ages or 1980's America.
